Dear graduate students, postdocs, and others,

On Tuesday September 11, from 3pm to 4pm, the American Physical
Society is offering a webinar on "Hiring Practices in Academia,
Industry, and Government Labs" that might be of interest to some of
you (more info below).

Since this fits with the goals of the JSA Promising Young Scientist
program for career development of postdocs, F224/225 has been reserved
for those who are interested in attending this webinar. If there is
sufficient interest, the webinar can be followed up with some
discussion on hiring practices based on the experiences of those
present.

The webinar presentations will be one-way only (audio and video), but
text questions can be submitted to the presenters during the
presentation.

Let me know if you will attend, so we have an idea of how many people
to expect. Patricia Solvignon will facilitate.

Cheers,
Wouter

APS Webinars: Hiring Practices in Academia, Industry, and Government Labs
With: Alice White (Bell Labs/Alcatel-Lucent), Philip Wyatt (Wyatt
Technology Corp.), Arnold Kritz (Lehigh University), Richard Berger
(Lawrence Livermore National Lab)
Tuesday, September 11, 3:00 pm - 4:00 pm ET
The three most common career paths for physics PhD graduates are jobs
in industry, jobs in government Labs, and jobs in academia—yet the
standard hiring practices for each of these areas are not necessarily
the same. In this webinar, members of the APS Committee on Careers and
Professional Development (CCPD) will discuss common hiring practices
in each of these contexts. For more information, visit:
