July 10 Briefs Excerpts:
CNI Systems Maintenance Period Set for July 16, 5-7 p.m.
The CNI group is planning a Systems Maintenance Period for 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, July 16. During this maintenance period, Zimbra email will be down for about 30 minutes while an update is installed. Jlabl1-4, login1 and login2, hallgw, acelogin, and CNI-managed web servers will be rebooted to install patches; the outage for each system will be short (about 5-10 minutes). Additionally, Firefox, Thunderbird and Adobe Flash will all be updated to the latest versions on CNI-managed Windows systems. Finally, Windows and Linux patches will be deployed on all Common User Environment (CUE) desktop systems. Plan on rebooting your desktop system to finalize these patch installations on the following Wednesday or Thursday (July 17-18). If you have any questions or concerns about this planned maintenance period, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.
Site-Wide Network Outage Set for Saturday, July 20
On Saturday, July 20, a site-wide network outage is scheduled for 8 a.m.-noon for equipment upgrades. This outage will disrupt Internet access, wifi and landline telephones. Although the outage window is four hours, the most critical services, which include phones, Internet and central servers, will be restored first. This outage does not include the accelerator controls network itself. For questions about this work, contact the IT Division Helpdesk.
Last Reminder: Revised General Access Radiological Worker Permit
The Radiation Control group has revised the 2013 General Access RWP to reflect changes to items coming out of the north and south linacs. This new revised GARWP must be signed by July 15 by all Radiation Workers to retain their qualifications and to gain entrance to the accelerator site. The GARWP is titled SAF801kd, and the change is located in the middle of page 3, item #9. A revision date of June 25, 2013, should be shown in the upper left hand corner of this document. Make sure you refresh your browser once you have opened this document, to make sure you have the newest version. You can locate the document on the web-based training page. If you have questions or concerns, contact Becky Mosbrucker, x7236, or the RadCon Technician cell phone, 876-1743. Web-based training page: http://www.jlab.org/div_dept/train/webbasedtraining.html
