July 24 Briefs Excerpts:

Windows XP End of Support Coming Soon
On April 8, 2014, Microsoft will end support for Windows XP. After that date, Microsoft will no longer provide security patches for any XP system, rendering these systems vulnerable to hackers and other security issues. When security patches are no longer available for these systems, they will be removed from the Jefferson Lab network. The CNI group will assist with migrating Windows XP systems to Windows 7. If you have a Windows XP system, visit the linked webpage that follows this announcement and answer a few questions to determine the viability of updating your system and to see what you need to do to prepare for the update. If your XP system can be updated, and you would like to do so, contact the IT Division Helpdesk to schedule a time to migrate your system well before next April. Doing this now will ensure that your system is updated in a timely manner. Link: https://cc.jlab.org/XPexpiration

Summer Interns Poster Session Set for Aug. 2
Mark your calendar for the 2013 Summer Interns Poster Session. More than 30 high school and undergraduate interns who spent the summer doing research and working on projects at Jefferson Lab will show off the results of their work. The students are eager to explain and discuss their work, and questions by members of the lab community are encouraged. The session is set for Friday, Aug. 2, in the CEBAF Center lobby, 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m.

Tracking Thomas at Jefferson Lab
Harry Fanning correctly guessed the location for July 17. Honorable mentions go to Sam Holben, Robert Martin and Scott Thompson. For this week's new mystery photo, visit Tracking Thomas's new home on the Jefferson Lab flickr site (and email Kandice Carter if you think you know where he is): http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffersonlab/9357006649/
A better view of his last location is also available on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jeffersonlab/9357007793/
