JSA Initiatives Fund Program - Call for Proposals
JSA is soliciting proposals for Initiatives Fund support for the FY2015 program. An Initiatives Fund Evaluation Committee will review eligible proposals that meet the criteria. Members of the Jefferson Lab user community, Jefferson Lab researchers and staff, other individuals or groups who can make unique contributions to the lab's research, development, education and technology transfer missions may submit proposals. Proposals are due by close of business on July 21 . For more information, see the full announcement: http://www.jsallc.org/IF/CP15.html

Training Offered for New Spam and Virus Filter Software
On June 17 , the CNI group will migrate from the current spam and virus solutions to an updated environment. This environment is expected to provide better spam- and virus-blocking capabilities, while also providing a local (at Jefferson Lab) User Spam Quarantine server. A training session will be held in the CEBAF Center auditorium at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 12 . This training will provide information on how to manage your individual message quarantine. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

Mentors for Governor School Students
It's the time of year again to ask for Jefferson Lab staff to be Governor School Mentors. The students will be in their senior year of high school and are enrolled in the local Governor's School for Science and Technology. The requirements for mentors would be to provide a project that can be completed in an academic school year with the student working 5 hours a week/35 hours a quarter (nine weeks). The mentorship culminates with the students' formal presentation of their project in both written and oral forms, with the oral presentation given in a symposium format before a judging panel for local professionals in their fields. If you are interested in serving as a mentor or if you have any questions, contact Brita R. Hampton at hampton at jlab.org by Friday, 13 June 2014 .

2014 Open House Thank You and Survey
Public Affairs extends its many thanks to the great volunteers who made the 2014 Open House successful. We'd also like to give all volunteers the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience and to offer suggestions for improving the event. If you volunteered for the Open House, please take a moment to complete this brief survey about the event. The results will be tallied and considered in planning the next Open House. CNI Maintenance Period Set for Tuesday, June 17 , 5-10 p.m.
CNI is planning a maintenance period on Tuesday, June 17 , 5-10 p.m. During this time, there will be an incoming mail outage while the lab shifts over to the new spam and virus filter software. All incoming mail will be stored and will be delivered once the cutover is complete. Incoming mail will start flowing again no later than 10 p.m. No email will be lost during this transition. There will be brief network outages in the following buildings due to switch code upgrades: Test Lab (Bldg. 58), Technology and Engineering Development Building (Bldg. 55), the Free-Electron Laser (Bldg. 18), the Experimental Equipment Lab (Bldg. 90), CEBAF Center (Bldg. 12), the Support Service Center (Bldg. 28), the Radcon Complex (Bldgs. 52, 52b, 52c), the Applied Research Center, Building 19, Building 89, Building 200, Building 201, Building 34A, Building 98 and Building 96B. There will also be short phone outages in the ARC, SSC, Building 19, CEBAF Center, Test Lab, EEL and Building 57 to update the phone routing. Each outage will last no more than 15 minutes. Finally, patches will be released to all Linux and Windows desktops. Plan on rebooting your desktop system on either Wednesday or Thursday to finalize the patch installation. If you have any questions or concerns about these maintenance activities, please contact the IT Division Helpdesk at helpdesk at jlab.org , or x7155.
