March 11 Briefs Excerpts:
Jefferson Lab to Test Notification Tools During Statewide Tornado Drill
A test will be conducted of Jefferson Lab’s emergency notification systems at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, March 17. Don't respond to the siren or any of the test notification messages; this will be a test of the lab’s emergency notification systems and not a personnel response exercise. Jefferson Lab’s Tornado Siren, Site-Wide Alert system (email, page and Cisco phone text message), and the Public Address tool (verbal announcement over Cisco phone speakers) will be tested concurrently beginning at 9:45 a.m. For more information, see the full all-staff memo: https://www.jlab.org/memo/jlab-test-all-emergency-notification-tools-945-am-tuesday-march-17-tornado-siren-public-address

CNI Systems Maintenance Period Set for March 17, 5-7 p.m.
The CNI group is currently planning a Systems Maintenance Period for Tuesday, March 17, 5-7 p.m. During this time, the group will be patching and rebooting the Zimbra mail servers. This will cause a short (5-10 minute) outage while the systems are rebooted. If you have a Zimbra account, you can expect a 5-10 minute interruption of your email access starting at around 5:30 p.m. The Zimbra environment will be back up and functioning by 6 p.m. Additionally, several of the Core CUE applications will be updated, including Firefox and Thunderbird. Some work will also be done on the lab's phone lines, but no outage is expected. Finally, Windows and Linux patches will be released to all desktops and servers. Plan on rebooting your system to finalize the patch installation no later than Friday, March 20. As always, if you have any questions or concerns regarding these maintenance activities, please contact the IT Division Helpdesk, helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

Jefferson Lab Property Management Best Practices
Nearly every employee at Jefferson Lab is a property custodian and is responsible for the proper use, control, physical protection and disposition of his or her assigned government property – be it one item or 100. For more information about the proper management and disposal of property, refer to the Property Manual, which is accessible from the Property webpage. In advance of the annual property validation process, scheduled to begin in March, Christian Whalen, Jefferson Lab property manager, offers property advice in the linked all-staff memo: https://www.jlab.org/memo/jlab-property-management-best-practices
