New General Purpose Linux System Available
With the release last year of Redhat Enterprise Linux 7(RHEL7), Redhat has introduced major changes to the Linux Operating System. In order to provide staff and users with a system where they can evaluate this new OS, CNI has introduced a new general purpose linux system, jlabl5. Staff and users can log in and and use this system as they would any of the other general purpose linux systems (jlabl1 - 4). Records and Information Management Month Fact of the Week
April is Records and Information Management (RIM) Month. Records Management is everyone's responsibility! Each employee at Jefferson Lab uses records as part of his or her job. Regardless of media, each employee should be aware of the records handled and the disposition rules of those records. Some records have a very short lifetime and may be disposed shortly after created or received. Some records, such as those pertaining to the radiation contamination program or accelerator facilities, have a lifetime that may exceed 75 years. To view the records schedules that govern Jefferson Lab's records, visit the "DOE Records Schedules" collection in Docushare or contact Kim Edwards at kindrew at jlab.org. RIM Trivia Question of the Week
This week's trivia question: In the first season of Deep Space Nine, a Cardassian named Marritza is interrogated for alleged war crimes in the Bajoran prison camp Gallitep. During interrogation, he reveals, "In 14 units of service, I never misplaced or lost a record. I received numerous commendations. Gul Darhe'el, himself, called my computer filing system, "a masterpiece of meticulous exactitude." What position did Marritza hold at Gallitep? All responses must be received via email by Kim Edwards at kindrew at jlab.org by noon on Friday, April 8, when a random drawing will take place of all correct answers. One person will win a Starbucks gift card! (Winners will be notified via email no later than 5 p.m. Friday following publication. Limit one gift card win per person.)
