August 31 Briefs Excerpts:
Tornado Warning Siren Test Set for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2
Jefferson Lab's tornado warning siren will undergo its monthly operational test at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 2. Don't respond to the siren; this is a test of the siren system and not a personnel response exercise. Individuals planning to be in the Central Materials Storage Area (where the siren is located) while the test is taking place must have with them and wear two layers of hearing protection.
Web Traffic Protections Begin Wednesday, Sept. 7
To provide improved security for Jefferson Lab systems, the IT Division will begin decrypting web traffic for those systems on the CUE 2, JLab Wireless and DOE networks on Wednesday, Sept. 7. This will allow the automated processes that the lab has in place to scan this traffic and remove identified viruses and malware. To determine what network your desktop is linked via, visit https://cc.jlab.org/WhatsMyIP from a web browser on your desktop system. As noted in a previous brief, traffic from known medical and financial institutions will be exempted from decryption, as these are generally not sites from where malware and viruses are deployed. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.
Clean Up Your Work Space with Responsible Records Management
Free up some space in your file cabinets and offices with this helpful tip from records management: Are there old copies of your department's travel paperwork, purchase orders and other financial documents stashed away in file cabinets or desk drawers? Recommended departmental retention for reference copies is currently plus one fiscal year, and these copies should never be retained for more than six years and three months after the fiscal year in which they were created. Adhering to the lab’s records retention schedule is critical to the credibility of the overall records management program. Old paper copies should be disposed or shredded. Contact Kim Edwards at kindrew at jlab.org for guidance or assistance on managing records.
Hall B (SAF111) Safety Awareness Training Will Be Updated Sept. 1
SAF111 Hall B Safety Awareness Training has been revised for everyone needing the skill and will be available on Sept. 1. This training will expire on Oct. 1 for anyone who last completed this training prior to Sept. 1. Those that have taken the training prior to Oct. 1, 2014, will need to read and sign the training document and schedule a walk-through. Employees may make an appointment for the walk-through by contacting Eugene Pasyuk at pasyuk at jlab.org or Doug Tilles at 757-810- 9576 or tilles at jlab.org. Subcontractors may arrange a walk-though with their SOTR. Those who completed the training by reading and signing the document and participating in a walk-through after Oct. 1, 2014, need only read and sign the new document.
