*Workshop on the Physics & Engineering Opportunities at the Electron-Ion
Collider*
*
*
*Ross Priory on Loch Lomond, Scotland*
*13 – 14 October 2016*

We are delighted to announce the first UK workshop on the Electron-Ion
Collider (EIC), which will focus on the physics and engineering
opportunities that it presents, to be held at Ross Priory on Loch
Lomond, just outside Glasgow, Scotland, on 13-14 October 2016. The
meeting will comprise one and a half days of talks on theoretical,
experimental and instrumentation topics.

The EIC, which is to be built either at Jefferson Lab or Brookhaven
National Lab in the USA in the 2020s, is one of the key priorities of
the US Nuclear Science Long Range Plan. These are early days in the
design of what will become a world-leading facility and of its
experimental programme and it is the perfect time to get involved at a
small or a large scale — whether on the physics case or on the
accelerator or detector design. The main aim of this workshop is to
present the EIC — its physics goals and possibilities, the current
designs of the two versions of the collider, the detector R&D and the
associated challenges — generate discussion of opportunities and open
the ground for new collaborations on the EIC projects, particularly
across the UK and other European communities.

Details of the workshop and registration (remote participation is
possible) can be found at

Best wishes,
Daria Sokhan and the organising committee
