October 19 Briefs Excerpts:

Say Cheese for the First All-Staff Photo in Two Decades!
On Monday, Oct. 24, Jefferson Lab Public Affairs is planning to capture the first photo to be taken since 1996 of all staff members. All full-time, casual, jointly appointed and student employees of Jefferson Science Associates, LLC, are invited to participate. Come early for the 9:30 a.m. portrait to be taken on the brick walkway in front of the Technology and Engineering Development Building (Bldg. 55). The photographers suggest that participants wear solid-colored shirts, dresses or suit jackets. If you have any questions or concerns about the event, contact Kandice Carter at kcarter at jlab.org or x7263.

Hogan Drive: Expansion Work to Begin Week of Oct. 24
Beginning the week of Oct. 24, the process will start to change the two-lane Hogan Drive into four lanes. The process is scheduled to take 8-9 months, and during much of this process, the Jefferson Lab Hofstadter Road entrance off Hogan will be closed. See the full memo for more information: https://www.jlab.org/memo/hogan-drive-expansion-work-begin-week-oct-24

TIAA-CREF Offers Financial Literacy Resources
Several recent surveys have found that nearly a third of Americans have no retirement savings at all or are not taking advantage of the full suite of resources available. With more uncertainty in the economy than ever before, being part of the conversation about saving for your future has never been more important! In an effort to continue financial literacy education among Jefferson Lab staff, Human Resources is highlighting National Retirement Security Week. To discover the ways that TIAA-CREF can assist you in your goals for the future, visit the website. If you have any questions about enrollment in the lab-sponsored retirement plan, contact Treva Ferguson at x7291. Jefferson Lab Public Address System Test Set for Thursday, Oct. 20, at 5:30 p.m.
Emergency Management Team staff will conduct the monthly test of Jefferson Lab’s Public Address System – the live audible announcement feature – available through the lab’s Cisco phones. The test is conducted after normal business hours, because it interrupts any in-progress call on a Cisco phone. Active calls are automatically put on “hold.” As soon as the announcement has ended, the Jefferson Lab person may re-activate the call. For more information, see the full memo: https://www.jlab.org/memo/thursday-oct-20-530-pm-jlab-will-test-its-public-address-system

Tickets Still Available for Raffle Benefitting the United Way
You can win a GoPro HERO4, a Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 (32GB), or a $300 Best Buy Gift Card! Purchase your raffle tickets for $1 each in the CEBAF Center atrium during lunchtime throughout the month of October. Tickets will also be sold at the JAG Oktoberfest on Oct. 27 until the winning tickets are drawn. All proceeds will go to the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula.

Library Offers Free Books
The library is purging its older titles and offering them to lab staff on a first-come, first-served basis. These books are located near the windows in the back of the library area - just look for the signs. The library will dispose of any unclaimed books on Nov. 1. The list of available books is linked here: https://www.jlab.org/div_dept/cio/IR/library/freebooks.html
