*Jianwei Qiu to become Theory Center Director at Jefferson Lab*

We are delighted to announce that Jianwei Qiu, a world renowned expert 
in quantum chromodynamics has accepted the appointment as Director of 
the Theory Center and will join the laboratory in early Fall. Jianwei 
received his Ph. D. from Columbia University where his supervisor was Al 
Mueller. As a postdoc, he worked at Argonne National Lab where Ed Berger 
and Dennis Sivers were prominent collaborators; and at the Yang 
Institute at Stony Brook University where Jianwei completed some very 
important work with George Sterman. Jianwei spent more than twenty years 
on the faculty of Iowa State University, and during the past six years 
he has been a prominent member of the theory group at Brookhaven 
National Laboratory. Jianwei was one of the editors and principal 
authors of the white paper which lays out the physics program achievable 
at a future electron ion collider.

The search was conducted by a distinguished committee consisting of Joe 
Carlson and Bob McKeown (co-chairs), Charlotte Elster, Franz Gross, 
Frithjof Karsch, Krishna Rajagopal, and Feng Yuan. We are grateful to 
them for their efforts on behalf of Jefferson Lab.
