IT Division Maintenance Period Set for Tuesday, Sept. 20
The IT Division is planning to conduct system maintenance activities on Tuesday evening, Sept 20, 5-7 p.m. During this time, staff members will reboot the public linux systems, jlabl1-5, in order to update the hardware configurations. Also, patches will be released to all CUE-managed Linux and Windows systems. There will also be various reboots of systems and services overnight in order to finalize the patch installations on central servers. Updated Core CUE software will also be released, such as Firefox, during the maintenance period. Plan to update these packages when prompted and reboot your system to finalize patch installations no later than Friday, Sept. 23. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.
Annual Property Inventory Ends on Sept. 26
The Jefferson Lab Annual Property Inventory will end on Monday, Sept. 26. The inventory has been underway since early June. Before Sept. 26, those Property Custodians who have been contacted by Property Management personnel regarding items not found during the inventory are asked to seek out those items and submit a digital image of each item, including the visible property tag, and send the image(s) to Property Management. Property inventory questions and photos of found items may be sent to property at jlab.org. Specific questions about these requirements may be directed to Christian Whalen, x5899. Jefferson Lab Golf Outing Set for Sept. 30
The Jefferson Lab 2016 Fall Golf Outing will be held on Friday, Sept. 30, at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club (Green Course) in Williamsburg, Va. The tourney will kick off at noon with a shotgun start. The format will be a handicapped Captain’s Choice with two flights. The registration fee for Jefferson Lab employees (you qualify if you receive a paycheck from JSA) is $65. The registration fee for non-employees is $80. The deadline for registering for the tournament is Monday, Sept. 26. Role Model and Activity Volunteers Needed to Help with BEAMS
Becoming Enthusiastic About Math and Science – or BEAMS – Jefferson Lab's long-running math and science enrichment program for upper-elementary and middle-school students needs help. BEAMS supports Newport News inner-city public school students as they progress from fifth through eighth grade. Over the course of the school year, nearly 1,500 students and their teachers visit Jefferson Lab between two and three days to participate in BEAMS science and math activities conducted with the help of lab scientists, engineers, technicians and administrators. Lab staff members, users and students interested in assisting with educational activities conducted at the lab during normal business hours are encouraged to contact Christine Wheeler at x7560 or wheelerc at jlab.org. Dog Brain Games & Tricks Class Offered
Want to train your dog to do a new trick or two? This course is designed to teach you how to clicker train your dog to perform some cute tricks. Classes will meet on Tuesday evenings at 7 p.m. in Bldg. 28, the Support Services Building lobby. First class is on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2016. To participate, your dog should have a solid “down” and “sit” cue; and be house trained. See full course information on the We Hear That page.
