March 1 Briefs Excerpts:

Jefferson Lab Director Honored with Energy Secretary Award
Hugh Montgomery was awarded The Secretary’s Distinguished Service Award by the Secretary of Energy earlier this year. This honor highlights Montgomery’s contributions to the research programs at the DOE national labs, both as a world-leading researcher and as a more than 30-year DOE national laboratory employee. 12 GeV Upgrade - Hall C Update
The final pieces of the 12 GeV Upgrade of Hall C are now in place, and only a few demonstration tests of the newest magnets remain to be done. The dipole magnet passed all of its low-current tests, clearing the way for the last detector (Noble Gas Cerenkov) to be installed in the Super High Momentum Spectrometer (SHMS). The large concrete wall and roof sections of the SHMS shield house were then put in place, and technical staff began preparing the hall for electron-beam operations. Problems with the Q3 magnet's power supply were resolved, and the magnet has been ramped to currents well above the highest momentum setting of the SHMS. The dipole magnet has been successfully tested to just above the operating current. Instrumentation issues have slightly delayed the final high-current testing, but the performance of the magnet so far has met or exceeded expectations. Once the magnets pass the few remaining tests, Hall C will be ready to receive its first 12 GeV era electron beam and demonstrate its 12 GeV Project Key Performance Parameter (KPP).

ODU Physics Department Open House Set for March 18
The Old Dominion University Physics Department will hold an open house on Saturday, March 18. The event will include lab tours, an exhibit of meteorites, planetarium shows, and a variety of hands-on activities and live demonstrations. The event is free and open to all ages. For more information, visit: www.odu.edu/physics

Tornado Warning Siren Test Set for 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 3
Jefferson Lab's tornado warning siren will undergo its monthly operational test at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 3. Don't respond to the siren; this is a test of the siren system and not a personnel response exercise.

Secure Document Drop for Documents to Shred in CC
A secure drop-off box for documents that have been generated for Jefferson Lab business and need to be shredded has been added to CEBAF Center. The box is located in the Staff Services hallway behind the front desk and is available Monday-Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. See the full JLab Weekly Briefs for more information.

Reminder: Usage of the Central Material Storage Area
The Central Material Storage Area, or CMSA, is the centralized location for Jefferson Lab’s refuse and recycling compacters, scrap material collection containers, storage of bulk materials, hazardous waste and used oils, material handling equipment, and diesel and E-85 fuel for lab vehicles. Access to the CMSA is controlled. For more information on the area and arranging access, see the full memo: https://www.jlab.org/memo/cmsa-guidance-info

Reminder: Annual Property Training & Validation Due March 31
