March 22 Briefs Excerpts:
JSA Receives 2017 EPEAT Purchaser Award
It’s not easy being green, but JSA managed to do just that by selecting electronics that meet both IT and sustainability goals. JSA’s efforts at Jefferson Lab in 2016 were rewarded on March 13 at a ceremony in Arlington, in which JSA was presented with a 2017 EPEAT Purchaser Award. 12 GeV Upgrade
A setback was encountered at the vendor in transferring the load of the Hall B Solenoid magnet cold mass to its vacuum cryostat. The cold mass is suspended from the vacuum cryostat via eight support links, which are joined to the cryostat via stainless-steel pockets that are welded to the cryostat. The part of the link that penetrates the vacuum shell, and was to have been machined from a single piece of Inconel, was found to be made from two pieces welded together, which could not support the required load. A new set of links is being manufactured, all original links have been removed, and the cryostat shell has been rolled back from its position over the cold mass in preparation for installation of new links. The remaining sections of the radiation shield have been prepared with multi-layer insulation. Planning is complete for shipping the Solenoid to Jefferson Lab, with the shipping cradle together with its isolation springs having been delivered to the shipping contractor.
Tracking Tags Offered by Property Management Office
The Property Management Office has a limited number of tracking tags available for use in keeping track of tagged property items that exceed $5,000 in value. These tags offer an easier way to determine the exact location of high-value and portable tagged property that may be moved often during use, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters and function generators. The tags are small, about the size of a walnut; they don't interfere with sensitive equipment; and they are available free of charge to your department. The tags update a property item's location via wifi automatically as it is moved. However, they may not be used in Radiologically Controlled Areas during beam operations, and the battery must be changed every five years (a reminder will be sent by the Property Management Office to all tag owners to change batteries). If you are interested in obtaining tags for your equipment, contact Christian Whalen at x7025 or Danielle Tarver at x5899.

Food Services Contract Update: Transition Notes
The Jefferson Lab food services subcontract is two weeks into transition and two weeks remain before Elite assumes the work on April 3. Thus far, the process is going well. Elite interviewed the incumbent food services team, and several of the Eurest staff have accepted offers from Elite. The current Café Manager, Gaye Davenport, has plans to stay with the Eurest organization, and Patty Barry is pursuing a professional growth opportunity in Williamsburg. Also, the lab will soon be welcoming Vincent Savage from Elite, who, as Food Service Director and Manager, brings 25 years of food service experience, including nutrition services, menu planning and food service management for a variety of clients. Stay tuned next week for new ideas that Elite will be bringing to food service at Jefferson Lab.
