Jefferson Lab Unveils New Intellectual Property System
Over the past few months, Jefferson Lab has been transitioning to a new intellectual property management system. Now, the transition from Inteum to the new IP Folio system is complete. This new system allows inventors to submit and track their invention disclosures through the entire process, from disclosure through patenting and commercialization. The first training session on using the new system will be held 1-2 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, in CEBAF Center room F326-327. Additional sessions will be scheduled as needed. You can access the new system now via the Technology Transfer webpage. If you have any questions or problems with the new IP Folio system, contact Delisa Stanfield at x7941 or Kari Heffner at x5814 for assistance.

IT Maintenance Period Set for Tuesday, Oct. 17
The IT Division has scheduled a maintenance period for 5-10 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 17. During this time, the VDI environment will be down while the underlying management environment is upgraded. VDI should be back up and available no later than 10 p.m. Updates to Core Common User Environment software, including Acrobat Reader, will be released to all Windows systems. Windows and Linux patches will be released to all CUE-managed systems. Plan on rebooting your desktop system no later than Friday, Oct. 20, to finalize patch installations. If you have any questions or concerns about the planned maintenance, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

Changes to Lab-Provided Cell Phones and Data Cards
Starting this month, staff who carry lab-provided cell phones or cellular data cards will need to have them re-approved annually. This renewal process is being undertaken to certify the need for the phones on an ongoing basis and manage costs associated with telecom contracts. If you carry a lab-provided phone, you will receive an email asking you to complete an online renewal form in the coming weeks. You will need to complete the form to avoid an interruption in service. If you have any questions or concerns about this process, contact the IT Division Help Desk at helpdesk at jlab.org or x7155.

Exploring the Exotic World of Quarks and Gluons at the Dawn of the Exascale
As nuclear physicists delve ever deeper into the heart of matter, they require the tools to reveal the next layer of nature’s secrets. Nowhere is that more true than in computational nuclear physics. A new research effort led by theorists at Jefferson Lab is now preparing for the next big leap forward in their studies thanks to funding under the 2017 SciDAC Awards for Computational Nuclear Physics. Calling All Veterans: You're Invited to Participate in the Veterans Day Recognition Display
In recognition of Veterans Day, veterans of military service are invited to submit a photo of themselves in uniform for inclusion in a collage to be displayed in CEBAF Center prior to Veterans Day. This will be similar to the one displayed the past years. If you submitted a photo in the past, the photo will be used again this year with the information you previously provided. If you want to submit a new photo, feel free to do so. Submit photos to Mike Robbins by Nov. 3. Remember to include your full name, branch of service, and years of service. If you do not have a digital copy of your photo, employees can bring in a picture to CEBAF Center, room C222 to be scanned. For more information, contact Mike Robbins at mrobbins at jlab.org or x7617.
