September 27 Briefs Excerpts:
Test of Public Address System Set for 5:30 p.m. Today
On Wednesday, Sept. 27, members of the Jefferson Lab Emergency Management Team will conduct the recurring test of the lab’s Public Address (PA) System – the live audible announcement feature – available through the Cisco phones. No actions are required or expected from members of the lab community with this test. The test interrupts any in-progress call on a Cisco phone, with active calls automatically put on “hold.” For more information, see the full announcement: https://www.jlab.org/memo/wednesday-sept-27-530-pm-jlab-will-test-its-public-address-system
United Way Annual Ice Cream Social Set for Oct. 9
The entire Jefferson Lab community is invited to kick off the annual United Way of the Virginia Peninsula Campaign with an Ice Cream Social. The social will be held Monday, Oct. 9, in the CEBAF Center lobby at 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m. This year, members of lab leadership will be on hand to serve up ice cream and dress it with your favorite toppings. Donate just $1 per scoop (up to 3 scoops per bowl). All proceeds will go to the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. The food is being generously donated by our Quark Cafe contractor, Elite.
Restroom Lockers for Day Use Only
Members of the Jefferson Lab community are reminded that the lockers located in restrooms, in all buildings, are intended for day use only - contents and locks should be removed daily; the lockers are not meant for overnight storage. Facilities Services staff posted signs on Monday, advising individuals that beginning Friday, Sept. 29, locks left on lockers in the restrooms adjacent to the Fitness Center (rooms 2556 and 2557) overnight will be cut off and locker contents will be removed. Locker contents will be held, so that individuals may claim their property. Unclaimed items will be discarded after a couple of weeks. For more information, contact Mike Lewellen at lewellen at jlab.org.
Use On-Hook Dialing to Stop 911 Misdials & Wrong Numbers
The Telecommunications staff encourages everyone at Jefferson Lab to use the on-hook dialing feature available on the Cisco IP phones to eliminate 911 misdials and to reduce instances of misdialing other phone numbers. With the phone receiver/handset on-hook (hung up), dial in the number to place your call. Carefully check the number to make sure it is correct. Then pick up the handset, and the phone will automatically dial what is on the screen. If you misdial a number, press the button just below the back arrows, <<, visible on the display screen to delete the mistake. Vacation Donation Program a Success!
The Human Resources department is pleased to announce that at the conclusion of the vacation donation enrollment, 500 vacation hours had been donated. Once again, the laboratory will be able to provide financial assistance to the very grateful employees that qualify for the program. Thank you all for your generous support!
