Jefferson Lab Spotlight: Scott Conley

Environmental Engineer Scott Conley grew up with stories of nature, a passion that led to a career in environmental stewardship. Read more here .

ACCELERATOR SCIENCE / EXPERIMENTAL NUCLEAR PHYSICS
The spring run resumed during the early hours of Thursday morning, with all four halls receiving beam. Data taking continued over the weekend and into the beginning of this week. Special tasks in the preceding week included delivering ~850 kilowatts of beam power to Hall C for target boiling tests and a pass and Wien angle change for Hall B (from 5th pass to 3rd pass). Investigation into the source of beam loss trips at high linac beam current/power continue. Some insight was gained when the beam repetition rate for Hall C was changed from 249.5 MHz to 499 MHz, decreasing the bunch charge by a factor of two.

CENTER FOR COMPUTATIONAL AND THEORETICAL PHYSICS
The nucleon electromagnetic form factors describe the elastic response to electromagnetic fields, and contain a wealth of information about nucleon structure and strong interaction dynamics. A new theoretical method , combining chiral effective field theory and dispersion relations, is able to predict the proton and neutron form factors with controlled uncertainties up to Q 2 = 1 GeV 2 and beyond. The results can be used for the analysis of low- Q 2 nucleon form factor measurements in electron scattering at Jefferson Lab (PRad experiment) and other facilities, and for the extraction of the proton charge radius.

ESH&Q
Carry Hot Food Carefully
Take care as you carry hot food or beverages. Be careful when you go around corners or leave the kitchen area. Watch where you are going, take slow careful steps, and cover the container with a lid.

In the event you are burned, go to Occupational Medicine for evaluation and assistance. Do not conclude that your burn is not severe enough to warrant a visit. No burn is too minor. Thermal burns almost always worsen over the first day. Also, burn victims are offered a tetanus vaccine to help prevent infection. Occupational Medicine is located in the Support Service Center (Bldg. 28). Normal hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday . During or after hours, follow the guidance posted on the door. Call 911 if it is an emergency. For more information, see the ISM Poster dated April 3 , 2018 .
FACILITIES MANAGEMENT & LOGISTICS
New Fleet Vehicle Reservation Procedures
Effective immediately, select Jefferson Lab fleet vehicles are now available for reservations via the Zimbra calendar program. For detailed instructions on how to reserve a fleet vehicle, see the memo .

Resolving ID Badge Issues
If you are having issues with your ID Badge or need a replacement badge, stop by the Support Service Center front desk. Typically, non-functioning badges are the result of expired training. Personnel at the SSC front desk can identify the cause of the issue, and, if needed, contact Facilities Management & Logistics personnel to make new badges between the hours of 8:15 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.

CMSA Access Changes
The changes for the Central Materials Storage Area announced in the March 21 JLab Weekly are now in effect. Additionally, storage of material within the CMSA requires completion of a Storage Request Form available at the link. For more information, see the full memo .
