Dear Colleagues:
This message has become long, so here is 2-line summary with details
below: The User Group Board meets Wednesday January 10. Please send me
any issues you want addressed. Please send nominations for UG Vice
Chair, Board Members (3) and Postdoc Rep to the nominating committee
chaired by John Arrington.
The JLab User Group Board of Directors will have our biannual meeting on
January 10 at JLab. Apart from reports and exchanges with JLab
management, we will review our Fall activities and set forth our plans
for the Spring, including preparing for the annual summer meeting.
We will also hear from individual board members responsible for specific
areas such as liaising with lab management, foreign users, outreach,
computing and quality of life as well as members representing specific
constituencies (postdocs, graduate students and theory).
The main reason for this email is to solicit your input any new concerns
you might have. You can contact me or any appropriate board member (see
the link
(https://wiki.jlab.org/cugwiki/index.php/Directors_and_Responsibilities)
by email before the meeting; we usually set aside some time during our
day-long agenda for internal deliberations on any specific user-related
issues that require attention.
The other reason for this email is to let you know that, starting this
year, we have launched a Nominating Committee, with members serving more
than one year terms to ensure continuity, who will coordinate all
nominations on behalf of Users. This includes not only UGBOD
nominations, but also various external nominations (e.g. APS committees,
awards, NSAC…) as and when necessary.
We are very grateful to John Arrington for agreeing to chair this
committee and for David Armstrong for continuing to serve and to the
other members they recruited: Jose Goity, Maria Niculescu and Elton Smith.
Their first order of business is to solicit input for UGBOD elections.
Please send John or any of the other committee members your suggestions
for UGBOD candidates in the next week.
The people being replaced are:
1 vice chair (Larry Weinstein rotating out of chair line)
3 at-large members (replacing Charles Hyde, Marco Contalbrigo, and
Angela Biselli)
1 postdoc representative (replacing Nathan Baltzell)
Continuing elected members:
Chair line: Krishna Kumar, Julie Roche, William Brooks
Others: Lamiaa El Fassi, Or Hen, Ian Cloet (theory), Caryn Palatchi
(graduate students)
Finally, let me take this opportunity to wish you all a Happy New Year.
Here is hoping we get plenty of physics out during 12 GeV operations in
2018.
Cheers,
KK
