[Cuga] Nuclear Physics Summer School in St Andrews, Scotland- a message from Daria Sokhan

We are delighted to announce the
75th SUSSP and 20th STFC Summer School in
Nuclear Physics and its Applications
University of St Andrews, Scotland, 5th - 17th August 2019.

This two-week residential graduate school follows directly after the International Nuclear
Physics Conference (INPC), held in Glasgow, and is targeted at PhD students in theoretical,
experimental and applied nuclear physics. The international school aims to broaden
the participants' knowledge by providing lectures and skills-based practical sessions
across a wide range of topics at the forefront of nuclear physics research and its applications.
It includes sessions on careers and on nuclear physics outreach and offers all
participants a chance to present their research. Lectures in the following topics are delivered
by internationally leading researchers:

* Nuclear structure and reactions, exotic nuclei, gamma ray and laser spectroscopy
* Neutron star physics and nuclear astrophysics
* Hadron structure and spectroscopy
* Heavy-ion physics: quark-gluon plasma
* Applications (medical physics, industrial and cultural applications)
* Nuclear instrumentation
* Public engagement

Daily tutorial sessions consist of supervised mini-projects designed to develop a range
of skills needed for nuclear physics research. They are built broadly around the following
four areas:

* Theoretical modelling and calculations
* Simulation of an experiment
* Data analysis
* Advanced analysis techniques and neural networks

The school prides itself on its strong collegiate and social character: there is free time
after lunch with access to sporting facilities, an organised excursion day and a free day
