Call for 2019/20 CFNS Workshops
The Center for Frontiers in Nuclear Science (https://www.stonybrook.edu/cfns<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.stonybrook.edu%2Fcfns&data=02%7C01%7C%7Ca209ccfc6bba45435f2f08d6c1aa774d%7Cb4d7ee1f4fb34f0690372b5b522042ab%7C1%7C0%7C636909335228127305&sdata=RgS0L85sLoqW4bJLaEiOqUavSC5hUT9eVzrpe77OJ%2BA%3D&reserved=0>) aims to refine and strengthen the scientific case for a U.S. based Electron Ion Collider. Towards that aim we would like to extend an invitation to the interested international community to submit proposals for CFNS meetings: Workshops & Adhoc meetings to be organized by you, and hosted by CFNS in 2019/2020 on various topics related to the science of the EIC.
The proposals should not exceed 2 pages in which the following information is required:
* Scientific motivation of the workshop and it's connection to the EIC
* The desired scientific output of the workshop and how it would benefit the EIC/users community
* List of names of experts (and their affiliations) that would be needed in order for the workshop to be successful
* It is strongly advised to include at least one of the members of the CFNS (see CFNS web pages: https://www.stonybrook.edu/cfns/people/index.php#Members<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.stonybrook.edu%2Fcfns%2Fpeople%2Findex.php%23Members&data=02%7C01%7C%7Ca209ccfc6bba45435f2f08d6c1aa774d%7Cb4d7ee1f4fb34f0690372b5b522042ab%7C1%7C0%7C636909335228137309&sdata=jPmMzk7z%2BcetEesgrP7LN6zloJOO6bm659ba0NHZHjM%3D&reserved=0> ) on the organizing committee.
The proposals will be independently evaluated by the Program Advisory Committee (PAC)(https://www.stonybrook.edu/cfns/organization/index.php<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.stonybrook.edu%2Fcfns%2Forganization%2Findex.php&data=02%7C01%7C%7Ca209ccfc6bba45435f2f08d6c1aa774d%7Cb4d7ee1f4fb34f0690372b5b522042ab%7C1%7C0%7C636909335228147314&sdata=UAB%2FgaU1xQDGARjVL8WWLCFrxxNRsftSGcVvAAYSFHY%3D&reserved=0> ).
We envision hosting three workshops attended by approximately 40 people and a few adhoc meetings attended by no more than 10-15 people. CFNS Workshops are typically 2-4 days long. The number of people and days can be extended in exceptional cases. Adhoc meetings are shorter. CFNS organized meetings are registration fee free and travel/local support is provided for a few key invited speakers. Administrative support for the workshops is provided. The 2018 workshops and adhoc meetings can be found online: https://www.stonybrook.edu/cfns/activities/conferences/<https://gcc01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.stonybrook.edu%2Fcfns%2Factivities%2Fconferences%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7Ca209ccfc6bba45435f2f08d6c1aa774d%7Cb4d7ee1f4fb34f0690372b5b522042ab%7C1%7C0%7C636909335228147314&sdata=hO%2Bj4uwg6C%2FfD4E%2FS1k3IG8DHjAqE3eS6DUq%2BTuRtSs%3D&reserved=0>
Please submit proposals or questions to cfns_workshops+noreply at stonybrook.edu<mailto:cfns_workshops%2Bnoreply at stonybrook.edu> June 1st, 2019.
Consideration of diversity in the organizing group and proposed list of invited speakers is important to the CFNS. The PAC will consider this carefully while making their recommendation for supporting a proposal.
Thank you,
Ciprian
