HALL B GROUP LEADER
It gives great satisfaction to be able to announce the appointment of Dr. Marco Battaglieri as new Hall B Group Leader. Marco is anticipated to begin his duties on September 16th. Marco's appointment follows a wide and international search by a committee chaired by Curtis Meyer (CMU) and Patrizia Rossi, with as further members Cassandra Andrews, Richard Milner (MIT), Matt Poelker, David Richards, and Rik Yoshida. Interest for the Hall B leader position included both members from within the international CLAS12 collaboration and beyond.
Marco presently is a senior scientist in the experimental Nuclear Physics Group of the INFN-Genova, and from mid-2012 to mid-2018 was the national co-spokesperson of the JLAB12-INFN experiment group leading a group of 60 people with an annual budget of about 1M euro.
Marco has been a longstanding Hall-B user, since 1997, and has built his scientific career in hadron physics working at Jefferson Lab since the beginning. Marco is a widely respected member of several international collaborations, often in the role of spokesperson, and has spearheaded efforts in the CLAS12 meson spectroscopy including building the new CLAS12 Forward Tagger, in light dark matter searches such as BDX, in heavy-quark spectroscopy at an Electron-Ion Collider, and recently also towards novel streaming readout of large-scale detectors. Marco has authored over 270 refereed publications.
I would like to take the opportunity to once more profoundly thank Volker Burkert for his multiple large contributions to Jefferson Lab and CLAS science, to CLAS12 construction, to development of its science case, and for his over 16 years as Hall B Group Leader. Volker will continue in his duty preparing for Marco’s arrival to make the transition as successful and smooth as possible
Regards,
Rolf Ent
