Jefferson Lab Hall A/C Staff I and Hall C Postdoctoral Fellow Positions

Staff Scientist I in electromagnetic nuclear physics in the combined experimental Hall A/C group. Experimental Hall A is currently installing major equipment in preparation for the Super BigBite Spectrometer (SBS) suite of experiments, while preparing for the future MOLLER and SoLID projects. A vigorous scientific program is foreseen for Hall C using the HMS and super HMS (SHMS) spectrometers, as well as new equipment such as a new Neutral Particle Spectrometer. The initial physics program of the Halls includes studies of generalized and transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions of the nucleon, detailed measurements of nucleon valence quark structure at large x, and studies of fundamental properties of atomic nuclei. Major pieces of equipment include tracking chambers, calorimeters, and gas and aerogel Cherenkov counters, centered around large resistive and superconducting magnetic spectrometer systems. The new Staff Scientist will assume a growing and flexible leading role in the construction and/or operation of multiple Hall subsystems. This individual will share the responsibility for execution of the experimental physics program in both Halls A and C with the combined Hall A/C staff and external user community, providing hardware and software support of the Hall A/C instrumentation. Hall staff scientists are expected to be actively engaged in aspects of the Jefferson Lab scientific program

The Hall C postdoctoral fellow is expected to take an active role in the upcoming Hall C experimental program at Jefferson Lab, which includes: studies of nuclear medium effects observable in electron scattering including the EMC effect and short-range correlations, a measurement of the pion form factor, and probing the three-dimensional structure of the nucleon using semi-inclusive neutral meson production and deeply virtual Compton scattering. The postdoctoral fellow will work alongside users and staff scientists, taking part in the running and analysis of these programs, potentially also supporting related science in Hall A. The Hall C postdoc is, additionally, encouraged to get involved in the longer term development of the novel neutral particle spectrometer or compact photon source. It is expected that the Hall C postdoctoral fellow will interact with the Jefferson Lab user community in the development of new experimental equipment and ideas, in the analysis of data, and to help with publications.
