The Nuclear Physics group at the University of York is seeking promising early career researchers for the Ernest Rutherford Fellowship. Several prestigious fellowships are awarded each year by the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC -- UKs funding council), to enable early career researchers establish a strong independent research programme. Applicants must hold a PhD and be able to exhibit clear leadership potential and must not hold an academic position. Successful proposals will be funded for up to 5 years including the applicant's salary, as well as travel expenses. A 5K equipment cost to support research can also be requested (larger requests will be reviewed but detailed justification is required). More details on the scheme can be found on the STFC website<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__stfc.ukri.org_funding_fellowships_ernest-2Drutherford-2Dfellowship_&d=DwMFAg&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=TI1-uR1CNrL-lIqQDSyKdxNA8TlS9bg3dZbKl21HDQU&m=M7-QXRHd8VMybUZVq_A8xYWtmZtT9NJEbmXbKju9ov9nB-cc1DfPGFw_v7rpfJrZ&s=f1v5V4XcamInEqBzxrkOWvUHuuu-ZKMGC3MKES6L800&e=>.
Applications must be submitted with the approval of the hosting University, and a quota system applies. Therefore, an internal selection process for this scheme is in place by the Nuclear physics group<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.york.ac.uk_physics_research_nuclear_&d=DwMFAg&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=TI1-uR1CNrL-lIqQDSyKdxNA8TlS9bg3dZbKl21HDQU&m=M7-QXRHd8VMybUZVq_A8xYWtmZtT9NJEbmXbKju9ov9nB-cc1DfPGFw_v7rpfJrZ&s=90yqYz9FHHJWBDtj1X9o4C9Z6upL6GNsf1TdglkgWKc&e=> at the University of York. We are currently seeking promising early career researchers to submit a brief -- up to one page -- case of support, a CV, and a list of publications before May 31st 2023. Early registration of interest will allow a discussion between the applicant and the group and enable the development of the case of support. International and UK applicants are eligible. We welcome cases of support from a variety of topics (from both experiment and theory that fall within the STFC core science programme) with links to nuclear structure and astrophysics, fission reactions, hadron physics, as well as computational science. The nuclear physics group at the University of York is leading research in the structure of hadrons and nuclei, studying nuclear processes, and in general is focused on studying the fundamental properties of hadrons and atomic nuclei as well as the origin of elements in the cosmos by employing and developing experimental and theoretical techniques. The Nuclear Physics Group and the University of York is committed to supporting Research Fellows through mentoring, career development and training. The University can allocate a studentship to successful applications in order to enhance the physics output of the fellowship. Promising candidates will also be supported for other funding schemes. For more information and for registering your interest please contact nick.zachariou at york.ac.uk<mailto:nick.zachariou at york.ac.uk>. Details on the internal and STFC application process will be sent to interested applicants.
