Hi All,
I'd like to strongly encourage Ph.D students graduating next summer to apply to the MIT Pappalardo fellowship in Physics! The Pappalardo program is how I started my journey at MIT, and I can say from experience it really fosters a remarkable and diverse environment to kick start one's independent scientific career.
Initial nominations are due September 8th 2023. This step is trivial, simply requiring that a senior scientist (usually Ph.D. advisor) lists your contact details and checks a box to confirm you are due to graduate next summer. The full application, including submission of a research statement, reference letters, etc. is only due later in the year... See full details below.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact myself or any other member of our faculty!
Best,
Or
Dear Colleague,
A reminder that the upcoming deadline for nominating a candidate for this fall's 2024-2027 MIT Pappalardo Fellowships in Physics competition is Friday, SEPTEMBER 8, 2023.
You may nominate your candidate(s) using the online form located at:
https://physics.mit.edu/research/pappalardo-fellowships-in-physics/competition/
Nominees should be young physicists of exceptional ability, at the beginning stage of their careers, who currently have or will have received a doctoral degree in physics, astronomy or related fields no later than September 1, 2024.
Please note:
(1) Your letter of reference is not required at the time you submit the online nomination form.
(2) Current MIT graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, or those who have already received an offer for a postdoctoral position from an MIT faculty member, will only be considered by the Committee under exceptional circumstances.
(3) Interested candidates cannot self-nominate; nomination by a faculty or senior researcher is required.
Thank you for your participation, and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact the program's administrator, Ms. Carol Breen, at breen at mit.edu<mailto:breen at mit.edu>.
Sincerely,
Jeff Gore, Professor of Physics
Chair, MIT Pappalardo Fellowships Executive Committee
