JSA Minority/Female Undergraduate Research Assistantship Program Now Taking Applications

Jefferson Science Associates (JSA) is seeking candidates for THREE research assistantships for minority or female undergraduate students to work on projects that are part of the Lab's research program or directly related to the scientific or engineering aspects of the research program. JSA will provide funds to support the students at the University during the 2023-2024 academic year for the Minority/Female Undergraduate Research Assistantship program. Sponsor Nominations are due March 31, 2023. Student components are due April 15.
This project is supported by the JSA Initiatives Fund Program, a commitment from the JSA owners and SURA. Initiatives Funds support programs, initiatives, and activities that further the scientific outreach, promote the science, education and technology of the Jefferson Lab and benefit the Lab's extended user community in ways that complement the Lab's basic and applied research missions.
• Students must be enrolled full-time during the 2023-2024 academic year to be eligible.
• Students must be a Physics major.
• Students must not be Dependents of JSA employees
• Students must be nominated by a faculty member in order to apply for the assistantship.
• JSA will provide a $6,000 stipend to each selected student’s university to pay the student through its student employment program. The assistantship will not provide support for tuition, fees, other such expenses, or to support senior thesis.
• The selected students will work at the university under the guidance of a university faculty member.
• The selected students must submit a project report at the end of the assistantship.
• Additionally, up to $1,500 is available for the each student to visit Jefferson Lab or to attend a related research workshop.
The nominations will be reviewed by a committee of Jefferson Lab scientists which will select the student to receive the assistantship.
Financial arrangements will be handled by JSA. JSA will contact the University and sponsor when the student assistantship award is selected.
