The Office of Science has announced a job opportunity for the Director of the Physics Research Division in the Office of Nuclear Physics (NP) at the Department of Energy (DOE).
The Physics Research Division Director is responsible for setting the direction of Nuclear Physics research in the United States, as well as developing and implementing within available resources a vibrant, enduring program of nuclear physics research that meets the Nation’s needs for new knowledge and trained nuclear scientists and engineers. The responsibility of the incumbent in this role is to deliver scientific knowledge and discoveries in nuclear physics that underpin DOE’s missions in science, energy, environmental quality, and national security; to steward forefront research that leads to new understanding of why matter takes on the specific forms observed in nature and how that knowledge can benefit energy, commerce, medicine, and national security; to plan, qualify, implement, and steward multiple, major, contemporaneous, international, nuclear physics research campaigns at DOE national labs/scientific user facilities and offshore international laboratories by researchers at universities, national and federal laboratories, and industrial laboratories.
