The 40th annual Hampton University
Graduate Summer program at Jefferson Lab
May 27 – June 13, 2024

This year HUGS will be fully in person. The deadline for applications (and reference letters) is January 7th, 2025 for early decision (especially if you need to apply for a VISA) and February 7th for regular applications.

The HUGS Program at Jefferson Lab is a summer school designed for nuclear and particle physics graduate students who have finished their coursework and have at least one year of research experience. Students who are well into a research project are also encouraged to apply.

The program is simultaneously intensive, friendly, and casual. All lecturers are internationally renowned and leaders in their fields. Students will be housed on site at Jefferson Lab, and there will be many opportunities to interact with the lecturers, as well as Jefferson Lab staff, other graduate students, and visitors. The school will close with a  student seminar session and a poster session.

Acceptance into the program is competitive, and a limited number of scholarships for in-person attendance are available through grant support by the United States Department of Energy.
