First Circular

SPIN 2025, the 26th international symposium on spin physics will take place in Qingdao (Tsingtao), Shandong Province, China, from Monday, September 22nd, to Friday, September 26th, 2025. The Symposium is one of the pre-eminent venues bringing together theorists and experimentalists in the field of high-energy and nuclear spin physics. It is held every two years, rotating around the globe.

The conference series has been held jointly since 2000, combining the High Energy Spin Symposia and the Nuclear Polarization Conferences. The most recent symposia were held in Charlotteville, VA (2008), Jülich, Germany (2010), Dubna, Russia (2012), Beijing, China (2014), Urbana Champaign, IL (2016), Ferrara, Italy (2018), Matsue, Japan (2021), and Durham, NC (2023).

2025 is the international year of Quantum Science and Technology and spin has been such an important part of the development of quantum physics. 2025 also marks a century since George E. Uhlenbeck and Samuel A. Goudsmit proposed the concept of spin for fundamental particles. The symposium will be organized by Shandong University, bringing together physicists in spin physics to Qingdao, a picturesque coastal city in eastern China, to share the latest advancements in the field. Participation of young physicists is strongly encouraged.

Here are tentative deadlines to keep in mind:

  *   Abstract submission opens on February 1st, 2025
  *   Abstract submission closes on June 30th, 2025
  *   Notification for accepted submission is expected by July 31st, 2025
  *   Early-bird registration closes on July 31st, 2025
  *   Free cancellation closes on August 15th, 2025
  *   Hotel reservation closes on August 31st, 2025
  *   Registration closes on August 31st, 2025

The symposium includes plenary and parallel sessions, covering the following scientific topics:

  *   Nucleon helicity structure
  *   Spin physics in nuclear reactions and nuclei
  *   Three-dimensional structure of the nucleon: transverse momentum dependent parton distributions
  *   Three-dimensional structure of the nucleon: generalized parton distributions and form factors
  *   Low energy spin physics with lepton, photon and hadron probes
  *   Fundamental symmetries and spin physics beyond the standard model
  *   Acceleration, storage and polarimetry of polarized beams
  *   Polarized ion and lepton sources and targets
  *   Future facilities and experiments
  *   Application of spin and nuclear polarization techniques
  *   Spin in heavy ion collisions
  *   Quantum computing and artificial intelligence


Conference Schedule

The conference will have plenary sessions on Monday morning, Thursday, and Friday, and parallel sessions on Monday afternoon, Tuesday, and Wednesday morning. The poster session will take place on Thursday evening before the public talk. There will be a free afternoon on Wednesday, and excursion options will be offered. The conference banquet will be held on Wednesday evening.

Conference Fee

The conference fee covers two coffee/tea breaks per day, lunches for five days, a reception, a banquet, and excursion.

  *   Before July 31st: 500 USD or 3600 CNY for regular participant, 250 USD or 1800 CNY for student.
  *   After August 1st: 600 USD or 4300 CNY for regular participant, 350 USD or 2500 CNY for student.
  *   Accompany participant 200 USD or 1440 CNY.


Financial Support

There is limited amount of financial support for early-career researchers. If successful, the applicant will be granted the registration fee. The application should be submitted before July 1st via the registration form with a CV uploaded, and a reference letter from the supervisor should be sent to  spin2025 at sdu.edu.cn<mailto:spin2025 at sdu.edu.cn>.


Conference Venue

The symposium will be held at Qingdao Haitian Hotel, which is located in the heart of downtown Qingdao, with the bathing beach in walking distance. All plenary and parallel sessions will take place in conference rooms of the hotel.

  *   Qingdao Jiaodong International Airport (TAO), about 58 km from the conference site.

Taxi and app-based rides are commonly available. It takes about 55 minutes.

Metro: Line 8 to Qingdao North Railway Station, Line 3 to Yan’an 3rd Road, then about 740 m’s walk. It takes about 30 minutes.

By train:

  *   Qingdao Railway Station [recommended], about 7 km from the conference site.

Taxi and app-based rides are commonly available. It takes about 15 minutes.
