<p class="MsoNormal"><small>Dear Colleague,<o:p></o:p></small></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><small>The DOE Office of High Energy Physics has
called for a workshop on physics at the intensity frontier to be held
in Rockville, MD November 30-December 2. The workshop goal is to
identify opportunities for probing physics beyond the Standard Model
(BSM) with studies that would complement BSM searches at the Large
Hadron Collider and information obtained from astrophysics and
cosmology. The result will be a white paper than may be used to present
the scientific case for supporting physics at the intensity frontier.
It is hoped that broad participation by the community will also
demonstrate to those responsible for policy and funding decisions the
enthusiasm that exists for this physics.<o:p></o:p></small></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><small>Physics at the intensity frontier has
considerable overlap with the nuclear physics community involved in
studies of fundamental symmetries and neutrinos. As a result, DOE HEP
has invited the Office of Nuclear Physics to participate in the
workshop organization. The workshop organizers have also asked the
three of us to serve as conveners of a working group on neutrons,
nuclei, & atoms that would draw on a significant portion of this
part of the nuclear and atomic physics communities. We strongly
encourage you to consider participating in the workshop, which may help
create a strong foundation for the future development of his part of
the nuclear physics program. </small></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><small>Your participation would be welcome through
several avenues. First, we are soliciting written input about
scientific opportunities in the form a two page LaTex document (the
template for which may be downloaded from the working group website
below). This input will be posted for all members of the community to
download and will provide a basis for our contribution to the white
paper. We request that all input be provided by November 6, 2011. </small></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><small>Second, we encourage you to attend the
workshop, participate in the working group discussions, and consider
giving a talk. While the schedule will likely not accommodate all
possible talks, we will select a representative set as described on the
website. Please note that senior researchers, post-docs, and students
are encouraged to participate and that some limited travel support for
students is available from the agencies. The presence of a significant
representation from the community is considered vital to the workshop
success. </small></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><small>Third, please share this invitation with
your colleagues both within the U.S. and abroad. Contributions from the
international community will be important to the success of
the workshop, helping us form a plan for US physics that will
complement the work to be done by our international colleagues.</small></p>
