The GHP Executive Committee would like to remind the membership
that the biennial call for nominations for the:<br>
<br>
American Physical Society Dissertation Award in Hadronic
Physics <br>
<br>
is open. Nominations are accepted until 1 October 2014 for
students who have graduated in the last two years so please
encourage your outstanding recent graduates to apply.<br>
<br>
The award, $1000 and a travel allowance of up to $1500 to attend
the biennial GHP meeting, will be presented at the April 2015
GHP Meeting in Baltimore, MD. Note that if the student has been
awarded an APS dissertation award previously, they are
ineligible for the GHP Dissertation Award.<br>
<br>
Nominations should be sent to: Matthias Burkardt (<a
moz-do-not-send="true" href="mailto:burkardt@nmsu.edu">burkardt@nmsu.edu</a>),
Chair of GHP and Chair of the Dissertation Award Committee, and
Ramona Vogt (<a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="mailto:rlvogt@lbl.gov">rlvogt@lbl.gov</a>), Member of
the Dissertation Award Committee.<br>
<br>
Other committee members are Christine Aidala (Ann Arbor), Ian
Cloet (ANL), Susan Schadmand (FZ-Juelich) and Ramona Vogt
(LLNL/UC Davis). Contact the executive committee, <a
moz-do-not-send="true" href="mailto:ghpexec@anl.gov">ghpexec@anl.gov</a>,
for further information. If you know of a deserving student who
has graduated or will graduate in the two-year period preceding
the nomination deadline, please see: <a moz-do-not-send="true"
href="http://www.aps.org/programs/honors/dissertation/hadronic.cfm">http://www.aps.org/programs/honors/dissertation/hadronic.cfm</a> for
more details about eligibility and the contents of the
nomination package. The student should also be a GHP member at
the time of nomination: it's free for students to join.<br>
<br>
The nominations will be evaluated based on: the quality of the
written dissertation (40%), the contribution of the student to
the research (30%), the impact of the work (15%), and the
broader involvement of the student in the community (15%). <br>
<br>
N.B. The membership of APS is diverse and global, so Prize and
Award winners should reflect that diversity. Nominations of
women, members of underrepresented minority groups, and
scientists from outside the United States are especially
encouraged.<br>
