As part of the search process, the committee met July 21 with many
groups, including representatives of the User Group Board of
Directors. Here is a precis of the topics we raised:

UGBoD members present: Haiyan Gao, John Arrington, Larry
Weinstein, Charles Hyde, and Holly Vance
The primary messages conveyed to the search committee were:

Science, and especially nuclear science, needs to be the top
priority of the lab and not just of the Physics Division

We need to enhance the profile of the lab in the larger
Nuclear Physics and even the entire Physics community

We need a sense of shared mission among the management,
staff and users

There is too much red tape and organizational issues slowing
down needed work

We need more transparency and user involvement in lab
decisions. This includes having more effective communication
with the users.

There was also some discussion of the personnel firings in 2014
and their effect on the user community and on the staff.
