During this time, division staff will be making a change to the central file servers, but no issues are expected. If you have any problems connecting to the M:\ drive (sgroup drive) after the planned maintenance period on Tuesday, notify the IT Division Helpdesk. The Scientific Computing group's name server will be replaced with a new server; this should have a minimal effect on farm jobs. For those who use the VPN system: the VPN server will also be replaced with an updated server; connections to the VPN after the upgrade will cause a local client download and update. Also, division staff will release updates to core Common User Environment software, such as Firefox and Flash, to all CUE-managed desktops. Finally, Linux and Windows patches will be released to all CUE-managed desktops and servers. Central web servers and other servers will be rebooted during the maintenance period or overnight to finalize these patch installations. Plan on rebooting your Windows or Linux desktop as soon as practical, but no later than Friday, April 21, in order to finalize patch installation on your system. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the IT Division Helpdesk at helpdesk@jlab.org or x7155.<br><br><strong>Students Use Jefferson Lab Website to Prep For Annual Tests</strong><br>Thousands of Virginia students are expected to flock to Jefferson Lab's Science Education website in the coming weeks – just as they have done each spring for the past several years – as they prepare for the Virginia Standards of Learning examinations. Jefferson Lab’s website hosts the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) Science and Math Practice Tests. The practice tests include questions and answers provided by the Virginia Department of Education from as recent as spring 2015, and going back to 2000. The program provides supplemental funds for graduate awardees to conduct part of their thesis research at a host DOE laboratory in collaboration with a DOE laboratory scientist within a defined award period, typically three months-one year. The application deadline is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16. The new service is called ProofPoint, and it will replace the current solution (WatchGuard). ProofPoint has performed well in pilot testing and provides more filtering capabilities. Proofpoint is planned to be deployed on May 1, 2017.
