The First Backward-Angle (u-channel) Physics Workshop will be held
virtually, on September 21-23, with the support of Jefferson Lab and JSA.

The objectives of the workshop are as follows:
* Offer a platform to connect scattered experiment and theory efforts
together, thus, potentially forming small backward-angle physics
working groups.
* Generate discussions on the implications the backward-angle physics

and probe the physics case for a systematic backward-angle physics
research program.
* Inspire future backward-angle physics data mining or dedicated
studies, including the JLab 12 GeV program, and PANDA/FAIR.
* Discuss the feasibility of including backward-angle physics in the
EIC scientific program.

Registration is now open at the workshop website:
A PDF copy of the workshop poster is attached. We would appreciate it

Scientific Program:
--------------------------------------------------------------
We have arranged an interesting scientific program which will feature the
following topics (partial list, still confirming speakers):
- Backward Baryon-Antibaryon Photoproduction at GlueX Experiment (H. Li)
- Backward Charged π+ Electroproduction from CLAS 6 (K. Park)
- Backward Exclusive ω Electroproduction from JLab 6 GeV Hall C (G.
Huber)
- Backward Meson Electroproduction Opportunities at EIC (W. Li)
- Backward Meson Electroproduction from the JLab Hall C Kaon LT
Experiment (S. Kay)
- Backward Angle Physics Opportunities with the BigBite and Super
BigBite Spectrometers (C. Ayerbe Gayoso)
- Backward-angle ω Photoproduction at Eγ=8.8 GeV with GlueX Experiment
(J. Stevens)
- Large Angle π0 Production at CLAS 12 (S. Diehl)
- Meson-Nucleon Transition Distribution Amplitude (L. Szymanowski)
- Phi meson production at Large Momentum Transfer (C. Weiss)

- ω Photoproduction off Proton Target at Backward Angles (B.-G. Yu)
- GPD at large Skewness (M. Strikman)
- Session Discussion on u-channel Electroproduction (C. Weiss)

- Studying Vector Meson Electroproduction at Large Momentum Transfer
(J.-M. Laget)
- Large Angle Beam-Spin-Asymmetry of pions at CLAS (S. Diehl)
- Short Range Correlation and Backward Nucleon Tagging (F. HAUENSTEIN)
- Backward production at high energies, in ultra-peripheral collisions
and at an EIC (S. Klein)

The program will be continuously updated at the workshop Indico
website: https://www.jlab.org/indico/event/375/

The workshop will be held online, starting at 9:00 and ending at 14:30
Eastern, all three days. Monday and Tuesday are devoted to
electroproduction backward angle reactions, ending with a 1 hour
moderated group discussion. Wednesday is devoted to photoproduction
backward angle reactions, also ending with a moderated group
discussion. Our goal is for the workshop and these discussions to
lead to a white paper on u-channel physics.

Please mark your calendars, and do not hesitate to contact any of us
if you are interested in contributing a talk or participating in the
discussions.

We hope to see you there!
