Postdoctoral Research Associate Position at the University of Massachusetts

The Experimental Nuclear Physics group at the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst invites applications for a postdoctoral research associate
position.
The UMass group currently has three teaching faculty, three post-doctoral
research associates, and five graduate students, with active research
programs
at RHIC, Jefferson Lab, and HIGS. We are looking for a candidate to
support
our effort with the A2 Collaboration at the MAMI accelerator, Mainz
Germany. The
candidate will participate in preparing and running Compton scattering
experiments that utilize circularly polarized photons, a frozen-spin
polarized
proton target, and the Crystal Ball. These data will allow us to make
the first
measurements of proton spin-polarizabilities. Residence in Mainz is
expected. The
candidate will also participate in preparations for the next PRIMEX run
at Jefferson Lab, which is the precision measurement of the neutral pion
lifetime,
and instrumentation development for Hall D at Jefferson Lab.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics.
The appointment will be initially for one year, with possible renewal
for two
additional years upon mutual agreement and availability of funds.
Applicants
should submit a resume, summary of research interests and arrange to have
three letters of recommendation sent to:
Professor Rory Miskimen
Department of Physics
710 N. Pleasant St.
University of Massachusetts
Amherst MA 01003
or by email to miskimen at physics.umass.edu. Consideration of candidates will
begin April 26, 2010 and continue until the position is filled. The
Physics department
is committed in its effort to hire candidates who will enhance the
diversity and
gender balance of faculty, staff, and students. Women and members of
minority
groups are strongly encouraged to apply.

Opportunity Employer.
