RESEARCH SCIENTIST POSITION IN COMPUTATIONAL PHYSICS,
ASC/ALLIANCE CENTER, UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO
The DOE-funded ASC/Alliance Center for Astrophysical Thermonuclear
Flashes at the University of Chicago invites applications for a
Research Scientist Position in Computational Physics, with emphasis on
development of algorithms and code modules for High Energy Density
Physics.
The Flash Center is a multidisciplinary Center whose primary goal has
been to develop a highly capable multiphysics numerical simulation
code (FLASH), and apply it to the problem of Type Ia supernovae,
including a rigorous validation program. The Center also distributes
the FLASH code to a wide user community; by our estimates there are
approximately 600 internal and external users of the code, with over
300 papers published that use the code. The Flash Center has recently
secured funding to extend the capabilities of the FLASH code to enable
simulations of High Energy Density Physics.
Essential Functions for this position include: taking a lead role in
adding high energy density physics (HEDP) capabilities in FLASH;
interacting and collaborating with scientists at national labs and
academia; writing research papers and reports and presenting them at
conferences and meetings; writing proposals, and assisting with Flash
Center proposals to funding agencies.
Qualifications: PhD in related field (Physics, Engineering, Applied
Mathematics, Computational Science) and experience in applied
mathematics and high energy density physics are required. Substantial
experience with programming and numerical methods are also required
for the position. Good communication skills and the ability to work in
a team environment are highly desirable.
A curriculum vita, including a list of publications, and a description
of research interests must be uploaded to be considered as an
applicant. In addition, applicants are required to arrange for three
letters of reference to be sent to the address below. Electronic
submissions are preferred. Please refer to Research Scientist
position in Computational Physics. Send letters to:
