Accelerator Scientist - 10694
DATE POSTED: AUGUST 16, 2011
SALARY RANGE: $54,400 - $85,800 (SS I)
DUTIES:
Jefferson Lab has an opening for an entry-level accelerator scientist
staff position to participate in the structure design, simulation and
measurement for superconducting radio frequency (SRF) accelerator
components and systems. The incumbent will use state of the art
multi-physics (electromagnetic to mechanical) simulation codes including
those developed under the Scientific Discovery through Advanced
Computing (SciDAC) program and commercial tools. He/she should have
previous experience of RF or microwave structure simulation and design.
Experience with microwave measurement methods as applied to cavities and
components is desirable. Ideally the candidate should also have
experimental background in SRF or the electron beam based R&D
experiments such as those carried out at JLab's test and accelerator
facilities. With his/her simulation results, he/she will also help to
develop and prototype new cavity and component designs for different
projects including JLab's 12GeV upgrade, future light sources, proton
and ion accelerators and other projects.
Experience/Education Required: A PhD in physics or electrical
engineering is desired. A Post Doc training in computer simulations or
in an experimental project is preferred. Extra particle beam dynamic and
RF-beam interaction experiences are plus. Demonstrated track record of
publication in advanced research is required. The candidate must be able
to work in collaboration with others to solve complex problems
efficiently and be able to communicate effectively with other JLab staff
and international colleagues. Demonstrated ability to understand and
comply with safe-work procedures applied to Jefferson Lab activities,
including the qualifications for radiation and electrical workers.
