HALL D STAFF SCIENTIST - 10768
DATE POSTED: AUGUST 29, 2012
SALARY RANGE: $54,400 - $108,100 (SS I/II)
DUTIES:
Together with the upgrade of Jefferson Lab beam energy from 6 to 12 GeV, Hall D, a new experimental facility for high-intensity photon beam experiments, is under construction and scheduled to start operations in 2014. The initial physics program is a search for exotic states in meson spectroscopy motivated by QCD predictions. The project includes a beam line for linearly polarized photons, a spectrometer for the final state particles, and a fast, fully pipelined data acquisition system. A position is open for Staff Scientist I or II, depending on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate. The new Staff Scientist will assume a lead role in construction, implementation, and testing of some of the Hall D subsystems, including the detectors and the DAQ. Following the completion of the facility construction, this individual will share the responsibility for execution of the experimental physics program in Hall D with the Hall D staff and external user community, and will provide hardware and software support of the Hall D detector and other instrumentation. The Hall D staff scientists are expected to be actively engaged in the Hall D scientific program and in initiating new research proposals for the facility.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. in experimental nuclear, particle, or high-energy astrophysics with at least 3 years experience in nuclear or particle physics environment is required. The successful candidate should have expertise in the fabrication, assembly and operations of large complex detectors; or in the implementation of high-rate data acquisition systems. Familiarity with modern, pipelined DAQ systems is a positive. For any further questions arising from this advertisement please contact: Dr. E. Chudakov (gen at jlab.org ). Applicants should email curriculum vitae to:jobline at jlab.org (noting position title in subject line), and have a list of publications, along with three letters of reference sent to: Human Resources Consultant, JSA/Jefferson Lab, 628 Hofstadter Road, Suite 2, Newport News, VA 23606.
