Postdoctoral Position in High Energy Nuclear Physics
Los Alamos National Lab
The Dynamic Radiation team, part of the Neutron Science and Technology
group (P-23) at Los Alamos National Lab, is seeking well-qualified
candidates for a postdoctoral position for the construction and
operation of the polarized target for Fermilab. This target is built in
Los Alamos for experiment E1039, to measure the Sivers function of the
sea quarks with the Drell Yan process. This target will be used in
conjunction with the existing E906 SeaQuest spectrometer and consists of
a 5 T superconducting split coil magnet, with the polarization
transverse to the beam direction. The magnet is in the process of being
refurbished at Oxford Instruments. LANL's responsibility consists of
building the microwave and NMR system, theevaporation pumping system,
the target control soft and hardware , the integration into the existing
spectrometer and DAQ and project management.
The successful candidate should have a Ph.D. in nuclear or high energy
physics. Candidates are sought with strong experimental expertise in one
or more of the following areas: Detector development, vacuum technology,
cryogenics , polarized targets . The successful applicant is expected to
contribute to LANL deliverables for the project and to analyze the first
data from the experiment. This job will require some travel.
The position is initially for two years with the possibility of
extending if for a third year.
