Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position with the
Experimental Nuclear Physics Group at the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst. The primary responsibility of the successful candidate will be
to participate in the development of the program of parity-violating
electron scattering experiments planned in Hall A at Jefferson
Laboratory after the energy upgrade, namely the PREX-II, MOLLER, SOLID
and CREX projects. These experiments will search for physics beyond the
Standard Model at the TeV-scale, measure the neutron distribution inside
nuclei, and probe novel aspects of the QCD structure of the nucleon.
More details on the projects can be found at
http://people.umass.edu/kkumar/pves.html.

The position is for one year initially, with the possibility of renewal
for up to three years upon mutual agreement and availability of funds.
The successful candidate will have the flexibility to reside either at
UMass or at Jefferson Laboratory and will have the opportunity to
participate in other ongoing nuclear physics research. Applicants must
have a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear or particle physics. Prior
experience with both software and hardware development in
accelerator-based experiments is desirable. Work related travel may be
undertaken. Applicants should send a CV, a description of research
interests, and arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent
directly to Prof. Krishna S. Kumar, Department of Physics, University of
Massachusetts, Amherst, MA 01003 or by email to kkumar at physics.umass.edu
<mailto:kkumar at physics.umass.edu>. Review of applications will begin
August 9, 2013. The nominal start date is September 1, 2013. The
position will remain open until filled.

The Physics Department is committed in its efforts to hire candidates
who will enhance the diversity and gender balance its faculty, staff and
students. We strongly encourage women and members of minority groups to
apply. /The University of Massachusetts is an Affirmative Action/Equal
Opportunity Employer/
