Hall A Postdoctoral Fellow

SALARY RANGE: $48,600 - $73,200 (PD)

DUTIES:
In the coming year, experimental Hall A at Jefferson Lab will receive the beam from the recently upgraded CEBAF accelerator. The Hall A postdoctoral fellow is expected to take a leadership role in helping to prepare the experiments that make use of this new beam. These experiments include measurements of deeply virtual Compton scattering, the protons magnetic form factor, and deep inelastic scattering from 3H and 3He. The postdoctoral fellow will work along side the staff scientists on the Hall A High Resolution Spectrometers as well as the large acceptance BigBite spectrometer, both preparing equipment and as well as helping with data analysis. It is also expected that the Hall A postdoctoral fellow interact with the Jefferson Lab user community to develop new experimental ideas and well as help with longer term projects such as the SuperBigBite, Moller or Solid experiments.

Experience/Education Required:
A Ph.D. in experimental nuclear, particle, or high-energy astrophysics is required. Experience working with particle detectors and in analyzing data is essential. A solid background in lepton-nucleus physics and in Monte Carlo simulations would be beneficial.

The appointment will be made initially for one year and may be renewable for up to 3 years.

Applicants should attach curriculum vitae and arrange to have three (3) reference letters emailed to Stephanie Tysor (stysor at jlab.org ).
