The Department of Physics at the University of Virginia is seeking a post-doctoral Research Associate to work in the fabrication of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors for the Super Bigbite spectrometer in Hall A at Jefferson Lab located in Newport News, Virginia. Candidates with outstanding research potential and an interest in particle detector technology are invited to apply. This position will be supported by a Department of Energy/Jefferson Lab detector fabrication contract and is a one-year appointment; however, the appointment may be renewed for an additional two one-year terms, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.

The successful candidate will take part in the fabrication of Gas Electron Multiplier (GEM) detectors for the Super Bigbite spectrometer in Hall A at Jefferson Lab. He or she will also have the opportunity to participate in 12 GeV experiments in Hall A.

A Ph.D. in experimental nuclear Physics, high energy physics or a related field by the appointment start date is required. Candidate must have experience in working in an experimental nuclear or particle physics environment. The successful candidate is expected to assume duties in January 2014.
