POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW: ULTRACOLD NEUTRONS
The University of Winnipeg Subatomic Physics Group has an immediate
opening for a Postdoctoral Fellow. Our group is a member of the
Ultracold Neutron (UCN) collaboration at TRIUMF (Canada's National
Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Science, Vancouver) seeking to make
a new measurement of the neutron electric dipole moment (EDM).
The successful candidate for this position is expected to focus on and
contribute in a significant manner to the development of ultracold
neutron guides, neutron production and transport, and magnetic fields
for the experiment. There may also be the opportunity to support UCN
detector development work. The position would be based in Winnipeg;
some travel to Vancouver will be required. The candidate will be
expected to develop proposals and ideas for new experiments, such as
commissioning experiments for the proton beamline and UCN source at TRIUMF.
The person we seek will ideally have a recent PhD in experimental
nuclear, particle, accelerator, surface, or atomic physics (or a related
field), with several years of graduate level hardware experience in one
or more of the areas of detector, beam line, or data acquisition
development, or similar instrumentation projects.
The group at the University of Winnipeg has a number of local
Winnipeg-based laboratories dedicated to R&D for the UCN project at
TRIUMF. These include a magnetic fields R&D laboratory, laser
facilities for alkali (Rb, Cs) and polarized noble gas (Xe) magnetometry
development, and detector development laboratories with clean-room
facilities.
The initial appointment will be for one year, with possible renewal for
up to two additional years, depending on mutual agreement and
availability of funds.
All qualified candidates are invited to submit resumes, including three
letters of reference by e-mail to j.martin at uwinnipeg.ca
<mailto:j.martin at uwinnipeg.ca> to the attention of Dr. Jeff Martin,
Physics Department, The University of Winnipeg, 515 Portage Ave.,
Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2E9. Review of applications will begin immediately
and the position will remain open until filled. For more information
please contact Dr. Jeff Martin at (204)786-9443 <tel:%28204%29786-9443>.
