Staff Scientist I
Two-Year Term Position

Position Description

The successful candidate will participate in the development of the physics program for an Electron Ion Collider and in particular the further design of the detector and interaction regions. This includes work on both analytical and detailed GEANT-based Monte Carlo simulations. The individual will take a lead role in the definition and optimization of the required detectors. The individual is encouraged to develop a science program at Jefferson Lab. Upon mutual agreement, duties can also include work on the on-going Jefferson Lab experimental programs including possible analysis of accumulated 12-GeV physics data and/or detector related research. The position will be for a two-year term with possibilities of extension or conversion to a regular staff position subject to mutual interest and availability of funding.

Position Requirements

A Ph.D. or equivalent in experimental nuclear, particle or high-energy astrophysics with three years of experience is required. In-depth experience in intermediate/high energy experiments with a variety of detector systems, their functioning, and their integration is required. A solid background in lepton-nucleus physics and in GEANT Monte Carlo simulations would be beneficial. A strong record of leading large-scale projects to successful completion in a collaboration environment is essential.
