Job Posting
The Hadronic Physics Group, in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences,
at the University of Connecticut is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to
develop a software framework for the computation of SIDIS structure
functions on the basis of given "model input" or "trial
parametrizations", and for the SIDIS event generators.Such a framework
would be used in the future for 3-D PDF extractions and validations. We
are looking either for an experimentalist with strong theory background,
or for a theorist interested in close collaboration with
experimentalists. The successful candidate will be expected to play a
leading role in the design, implementation, testing, deployment, and
maintenance of the framework. The Fellow will be stationed at Jefferson
Lab, making periodic visits to UConn as required by the research efforts
of the group, and will help supervise the efforts of graduate students
from the group stationed at Jefferson Lab.
Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in experimental or theoretical
nuclear, particle, or high-energy physics (or closely related field)
before the anticipated start date. The successful candidate must possess
excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills as
demonstrated by scientific publications in major refereed journals,
conference presentations, etc., and a general knowledge of nuclear and
particle physics.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience/expertise in the following areas is strongly desired: Physics
of medium- or high-energy electron scattering; Radiative correction
calculations for electron scattering experiments; Modelling of structure
functions; Implementation of QCD-evolution equations; JAVA/C++
programming; Monte Carlo simulation; and/or Modern statistical analysis
techniques.
Appointment Terms
This position has an anticipated start date of December 1, 2016 and is
for an initial duration of one year, renewable for up to two additional
years (three years total), contingent on satisfactory performance,
mutual agreement, and availability of funds.
