Loyola University Chicago (LUC), College of Arts and Sciences,
Department of Physics, seeks qualified applicants for a newly
authorized, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, beginning in
academic year 2018-2019. The Department of Physics is one of the largest
undergraduate-only programs in the United States, with approximately 110
undergraduate majors, and it provides physics courses to a large cohort
of non-majors each semester. The department is located on LUC’s Lake
Shore Campus on the North Side of Chicago. For more information about
the department, visit our website at http://www.luc.edu/
<http://www.luc.edu/biology>physics.

Job duties include teaching courses throughout the undergraduate physics
curriculum for both physics majors and non-majors, conducting an ongoing
research program in physics, and performing service for the department,
college, and university as required.

The successful candidate for this position will have a doctoral degree
in physics or a closely related field. This position requires a
passionate commitment to excellence in teaching and dedication to
developing a strong research program that will engage undergraduate
students. Teaching experience is required. The incumbent is also
expected to be competitive for external funding.

Applicants should submit, by December12, 2017, current Curriculum Vitae,
a statement of teaching philosophy, a summary of research interests, a
statement of involving undergraduate students in research, and a letter
of interest to https://www.careers.luc.edu/postings/6305 . They should
provide the names and addresses of three individuals prepared to comment
on their professional qualifications for this position. References will
not be contacted immediately but may be consulted at subsequent points

Review of applications will begin on December 13, 2017 and continue
until the position is filled.

Loyola University Chicago is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action
employer with a strong commitment to hiring for our mission and
diversifying our faculty. The University seeks to increase the diversity
of its professoriate, workforce and undergraduate and graduate student
populations because broad diversity - including a wide range of
individuals who contribute to a robust academic environment - is
critical to achieving the University's mission of excellence in
education, research, educational access and services in an increasingly
diverse society. Therefore, in holistically accessing the many
qualifications of each applicant, we would factor favorably an
individual's record of conduct that includes experience with an array of
diverse perspectives, as well as a wide variety of different
educational, research or other work activities. Among other
qualifications, we would also factor favorably experience overcoming or
helping others overcome barriers to an academic career or degrees.

As a Jesuit Catholic institution of higher education, we seek candidates
who will contribute to our strategic plan to deliver a Transformative
Education in the Jesuit tradition. To learn more about LUC’s mission,
candidates should consult our website at www.luc.edu/mission/. For
