Postdoctoral Position in Experimental Dark Matter (SuperCDMS)

University of British Columbia

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in experimental
dark matter searches at the University of British Columbia to work on
the SuperCDMS experiment. SuperCDMS is a next-generation direct
detection dark matter experiment, currently under construction, to
search for low mass WIMPs through their interactions in cryogenic
germanium and silicon detectors. The collaboration is building a new
experimental setup at SNOLAB that will have the world's best
sensitivity for low mass WIMPs, and expects to begin taking data in
2019/20. We are also analyzing data taken at Soudan, MN by the previous
incarnation of the experiment. The SuperCDMS group at UBC is in
charge of producing a new data acquisition system for the SNOLAB
experiment, and is involved in analysis of data from Soudan. We have
a close relationship with and presence at the TRIUMF laboratory in
Vancouver, and collaborate with SuperCDMS scientists at other
institutions. The successful applicant is expected to take a leading
role in the development and deployment of the SNOLAB trigger and DAQ
system, take part in detector performance and characterization tests
at SuperCDMS test facilities, and to contribute to analysis of Soudan
data. She or he will also interact closely with graduate students.
The position is primarily based in Vancouver, but the candidate may be
expected to travel to Sudbury and to SuperCDMS test facilities in the
US.

Applicants must have received a Ph.D. within the last five years, or
be about to receive one. They should also have experience in
building, analyzing data from, and operating particle, nuclear, or
astroparticle physics experiments. Applicants should submit a CV and
arrange for three letters of reference to be sent electronically to:

     Prof. Scott Oser
UBC Dept. of Physics & Astronomy

Review of applications will begin on April 15, 2018 and continue
until the position is filled. The starting date is negotiable but
expected to be after July 1, 2018. Salary will be competitive, and
will depend on experience. The initial appointment will be for one
year, but will be extended for additional years subject to budgetary
confirmation and mutual agreement.

UBC hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment
equity. All qualified persons are encouraged to apply. UBC is strongly
committed to diversity within its community and especially welcomes
applications from visible minority group members, women, Aboriginal
persons, persons with disabilities, persons of any sexual orientation
or gender identity, and others who may contribute to the further
diversification of ideas.
