Dear Colleague,

The Laboratory for Nucleon Structure at the Department of Nuclear Physics
(IRFU/DPhN) at University of Paris-Saclay and the Laboratoire
Leprince-Ringuet (LLR) at École Polytechnique invite
applications for a 2-year postdoctoral position in nuclear/particle physics
with a possible extension of 1 year, in the Saclay-Palaiseau area in France.
The successful candidate will first join the group of physicists
contributing to the COMPASS experiment at the CERN SPS. The Saclay COMPASS
group is heavily involved in hadron structure
studies using both muon and meson beams. The appointed candidate is
expected to take part in the analysis of the unpolarized pion-induced
Drell-Yan and J/psi production data collected in 2015 and
2018 on nuclear targets and their phenomenological interpretation. The
initial appointment at IRFU/DPhN will be followed by an appointment at the
Laboratoire Leprince-Ringuet for a similar work with the
CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. Pursuing the same objective,
The postdoc researcher will end up with a unique extended knowledge of QCD
effects, from fixed targets to collider data at the highest energies. The
postdoc will be an active member of both CERN
collaborations, and interactions with theorists funded by the same research
proposal (Coldloss, ANR CE-31) will be encouraged in interpreting the
experimental results.

Applicants should either have a PhD in nuclear/particle physics or will
soon submit a PhD dissertation in that area. Personal skills such as
self-motivation, independence, initiative and the ability to
communicate will be particularly appreciated. Regular trips to CERN for
discussions and presentations are expected.

Applicants should submit a resume highlighting personal research
achievements, a list of publications where your contributions were
significant, and a statement of research interests and expertise. In
addition, the applicant should arrange for three letters of recommendation
to be sent.

The deadline for applications is January 15, 2019 or until the position is
filled.
Questions and applications should be sent to: stephane.platchkov at cern.ch
(COMPASS, IRFU/DPhN) and raphael.granier.de.cassagnac at cern.ch (CMS, LLR).
