What will I be doing?
As a participant with NCSES, you will be part of a team that searches for and analyzes key trends and patterns in science and engineering data-and visualizes them in novel and informative ways. Both independently and as part of a team, you will help define specific projects that will advance the Center's ability to generate, document, and analyze statistics on the science and engineering enterprise. You will also have the opportunity to collaborate with NCSES staff and utilize your expertise in R or Python to create a training course, for each of these software programs, that uses NCSES data.

You may also have the opportunity to make use of, support, and improve key NCSES and National Science Board products such as Science and Engineering Indicators; the National Patterns of R&D Resources; the Women, Minorities, and Persons with Disabilities in Science and Engineering Report; and the Annual Business Survey.

Participants are given challenging assignments, under the guidance of an NCSES mentor, who provide participants with a broad perspective of NCSES, science policy in general, knowledge of cutting edge research, and an opportunity to contribute to the mission of the assigned directorate/division.

Where will I be located?  Alexandria, VA (Washington, D.C. area)

What is the anticipated start date? Appointments are expected to start in late-winter/early-spring 2020. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidates.

What are the benefits?
As a participant with NSF, you will receive

*       Stipend starting at $57,000 based on your academic level and experience.

*       Health insurance allowance.

*       Travel allowance up to $5,000.

*       Relocation allowance, if you are located more than 50 miles one way from the hosting facility.
Appointments are for a year with the option to extend the appointment for additional years.  Extensions are contingent upon project needs and funding availability. The maximum time a participant can remain in the ORISE program is five years from his/her initial start date.
