Department of Biomedical Engineering
UC Davis, Davis, CA

The Department of Biomedical Engineering at UC Davis is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to work on system optimization and image reconstruction for a high-performance brain PET scanner. This individual will be jointly mentored by Dr. Simon Cherry at UC Davis, and Dr. Peng Peng at Canon Medical Research USA, Inc. This post-doctoral fellow will work in the Molecular Imaging Physics and Engineering Team, which is a diverse team of investigators with complementary expertise in medical image reconstruction, PET instrumentation, and clinical application of molecular imaging.
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in either physics, engineering, mathematics or a related field, with a focus on medical image reconstruction and medical system simulation. The successful candidate is expected to carry out research projects within the scope of the funded project with the following specific tasks:

· Developing the reconstruction algorithm for a brain PET scanner.

· Optimizing system performance using simulation toolkits such as GATE or SimSET.

· Data analysis, interpretation and presentation using Matlab, C++, or Python.

· Writing of manuscripts, conference presentations, grant applications, and mentorship of students.
Preferred qualifications further include one or more of the following:

· experience using ROOT, Geant 4.

· experience using machine learning.
A highly ambitious and motivated individual will have the opportunity to develop independent research ideas and their career path, and will be encouraged to develop research proposals and apply for extramural fellowship and other training grants. The successful candidate will have access to a range of training resources for staff and faculty, through the Office of Faculty Development, and the UC Davis School of Medicine Office of Research, for gaining professional skills including grant writing, project management and leadership, and communication skills.
The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of renewal for a further two years upon satisfactory progress. Please send a brief cover letter (describing your career goals and research interests), CV, available start date, and the contact information for three references to Dr. Cherry at srcherry at ucdavis.edu<mailto:srcherry at ucdavis.edu>, and Dr. Peng at ppeng at mru.medical.canon<mailto:ppeng at mru.medical.canon>.
