                                 EXPERIMENTAL MEDIUM ENERGY PHYSICS
                                          CARNEGIE MELLON UNIVERSITY

The Carnegie Mellon University Experimental Medium Energy Physics Group invites applications for two post-doctoral research positions to support our work at Jefferson Lab. We seek individuals who will both strengthen our research program and support our effort in diversity, equity and inclusion. The one-year positions are renewable for up to three years and the starting dates are negotiable. The first of the two positions will be focused on research with Professor Brian Quinn and our Jefferson Lab activities in Hall A and could be located either at Carnegie Mellon or Jefferson Lab. The second position will be focused on research with Professors Curtis Meyer and Reinhard Schumacher on the GlueX experiment and would be located at Jefferson Lab. The successful candidates would be joining a group that includes one Research Scientist, 5 to 7 graduate students and undergraduate researchers.

The main upcoming activity in Hall A will be the first data-taking with the new Super Bigbite Spectrometer (SBS) and analysis of the data. The first running period (expected for fall 2021) will be dominated by the GMn experiment, for which Prof. Quinn is a Spokesperson. The new postdoc will be expected to become familiar with the SBS and its analysis software. CMU designed and built the 288 modules which constitute the new Hadron Calorimeter (HCal-J), which will play a critical role in this first running period. Calibration, monitoring and development/testing of software for HCal-J will be a key task in preparation and early running.

Our current activities with GlueX span a range of physics searches for hybrid mesons, the photoproduction of $K\overline{K}$ final states, and baryon-antibaryon photoproduction. We also support the operation of the central drift chamber, and centralized analysis tasks. Participation in these activities is encouraged and new initiatives, including experiments at other laboratories, are welcome.

We seek candidates with strong experimental skills in data analysis, simulation and preferably with some hardware experience. Experience with Root, Geant4, and CODA would be very useful. In addition, for the GlueX candidate, experience in amplitude analysis would be valuable. Candidates with a Ph.D. in experimental nuclear physics, medium energy, or high energy physics are encouraged to apply. Further information about the group's activities can be found at www.cmu.edu/physics/research/nuclear-particle.html<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__www.cmu.edu_physics_research_nuclear-2Dparticle.html&d=DwMGaQ&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=TI1-uR1CNrL-lIqQDSyKdw&m=5jDsvhIb-6-0_xGNv7HcA1xfMETvBE4OrhP2tzc6pjk&s=meadmZuG_QJGQQBkWQ7qxY-L3GJYRN85A1CMCGsNWRQ&e=> .

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a summary of research interests, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted. Documents should be submitted through http://apply.interfolio.com/87281<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=http-3A__apply.interfolio.com_87281&d=DwMGaQ&c=CJqEzB1piLOyyvZjb8YUQw&r=TI1-uR1CNrL-lIqQDSyKdw&m=5jDsvhIb-6-0_xGNv7HcA1xfMETvBE4OrhP2tzc6pjk&s=Xhfmm45h2r1pjnVebU734VCt7owYvqziyGTAovGZj7Q&e=> . If this is not possible, they should be sent to Prof. Meyer at cmeyer at cmu.edu<mailto:cmeyer at cmu.edu> or to: Prof. Curtis Meyer, Physics Department, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA, 15213. All applications received by June 15 will be considered, and review will continue until the positions are filled. For more information, contact Prof. Meyer at the addresses given above.
