The Department of Physics at Lamar University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in experimental nuclear physics starting September 1, 2025. (A later start date is negotiable). This position is a Bridge Position with the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility (JLab), which carries a course release time of 50% for the first five years to afford expediting and focusing on experimental nuclear physics research efforts at Lamar University and JLab. We are seeking an individual with a primary research interest in the hadronic and nuclear physics conducted at JLab, preferably on baryon structure studies with CLAS12 in Hall B. The successful individual will be expected to build a strong research program that will enhance the current programs of the medium energy group at Lamar University and Jefferson Lab.
The position is a nine-month, tenure-track bridge position at the Assistant Professor level. Applicants must have a doctorate in experimental nuclear physics or a related field, postdoctoral experience in experimental nuclear physics or related field, an established record of publications in scientific journals, a strong commitment to excellence in teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and will be expected to initiate and lead an independent research program utilizing the state-of-the-art facility at Jefferson Lab.
Duties include research, teaching, and service to the University. The applicant is expected to establish and maintain a vibrant research program that complements and enhances the existing strengths in the department and inspires a highly motivated student body of approximately 40 undergraduate majors who actively participate in research. For the five-year period of the JLab bridged professorship, the teaching expectation will be a maximum of two courses per semester.
